ETF and Index Funds Winter 2011 Quarterly Report

Investor Economics’ Index Fund report has changed and is now called the ETF and Indexing report.
This service now provides an extended coverage of the fast-growing exchange traded fund (ETF) segment. Through a number of exhibits we now analyze the evolution of ETFs from many vantage points, including asset class, underlying investment and investment strategy.
Twice a year, the report will feature an update of the holdings of Canadian-listed ETFs by institutional and retail investors, providing insights on the specific distribution channels where these assets are held. For the core retail platforms (full-service and online/discount) we feature rankings of the most popular ETFs. The rankings also extend beyond Canadian-listed products and include ETFs listed in the U.S. held by Canadian retail clients.
Another addition to our coverage of the index fund space is the tracking of the mutual funds that “wrap” ETFs, a fairly new category that constitutes an attempt of some mutual fund providers to make ETFs available to a wider audience of advisors that operate with a MFDA license—and have consequently no access to the stock exchange to trade ETFs directly.
We remind our readers that this report is only the first part of the service proposition attached to the ETF and Indexing report. We encourage you to reach out to the team of experts who work on this research with your questions or requests for further information.
