The November issue of Insight updates our mutual fund industry Honour Roll, an annual tradition we began in 2002. The Honour Roll recognizes those manufacturers that have done the best, most consistent job of selling mutual funds. This year’s winners were not confined to the banks. Our elves had to make more gold ribbons than before as 11 fund companies ranked among the five best-sellers of long-term funds in at least one month, and 21 made it into the top 10. There are several reasons why the winners’ circle is less concentrated than before. Some small players have done extraordinarily well in a particular asset class. Large international equity funds have begun returning to favour in earnest and investor enthusiasm for income trust funds has cooled, opening the sales window to other types of funds.
