Armed with a Bachelor of Economics from Columbia’s Universidad de Los Andes, Maria alighted in Canada, where she earned an MBA in Strategic Management and International Business from McGill University. Her foray into the Canadian financial services realm came in the form of a Senior Financial Analyst – Treasury role in the electronic sector, applying her myriad talents to reviewing competitors’ performance and overseeing a project that culminated in a dramatic increase in operational efficiencies.
After landing at Investor Economics in 2007, Maria was charged with spearheading our research on private investment counsellors, judiciously analyzing trends and creating a comprehensive database for the channel. Always one to thrive in the presence of deadlines big and small, she recently began applying her financial savvy to wealth management and distribution services, and is currently delving into the ins and outs of insurance distribution channels along with the pros and cons of captive versus independent financial advisors.
An avid traveler and reader, immersing herself in the works of Latin American authors remains one of Maria’s favourite ways to wile away the hours – along with indulging her fondness for concerts, museums and independent films.
