Insurance Advisory Service September 2021—Special Feature
Segregated Funds Now and in the Future
Since their introduction more than sixty years ago, individual segregated funds in Canada have gone from feast to famine and back again. The category experienced two periods of significant growth: one in the mid-90s, the other just before the financial crisis. During the decade prior to the pandemic, the growth and sales volumes of segregated funds have been generally modest.
The research feature of the Insurance Advisory Service (IAS) examines how demographics, regulatory initiatives, technology and product evolution will shape the future of segregated funds in the post-pandemic world. In this article we present the forecast for segregated funds along other product structures. The analysis was expanded from that published in the Household Balance Sheet Report, focusing on the key factors driving the segregated fund business into the future.
