Research on Investment Fund Sales in Canada by Strategic Insight

Investment fund inflows during the first 10 months of 2018, while positive overall, were weak when compared to recent years. Far from a Canadian phenomenon, this trend is verified in all developed markets. Numerous factors, including the return of volatility to equity markets and a downturn in fixed income valuations linked to interest rate rises, contributed to the softening of fund inflows globally.

The Canadian market, however, has experienced additional challenges derived from the high level of household indebtedness and a profound change in advisor practices.

This issue of Insight examines the directionality of fund inflows from a product, asset class and sponsor type perspective. The Trendlines article looks at the recent experience of retail deposits.
